Dua for Relief from Distress

This supplication was often recited by the Prophet ﷺ when facing deep sadness or hardship.

ARABIC

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ، وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ، وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ، مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ، أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ، أَوِ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الْغَيْبِ عِندَكَ، أَنْ تَجْعَلَ الْقُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي، وَجَلَاءَ حُزْنِي، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي

Transliteration

Allāhumma innī ʿabduka, wa-ibnu ʿabdika, wa-ibnu amatika, nāṣiyatī biyadika, māḍin fiyya ḥukmuka, ʿadlun fiyya qaḍā’uka, as’aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fī kitābika, aw ʿallamtahu aḥadan min khalqika, aw ista’tharta bihi fī ʿilmil-ghaybi ʿindaka, an tajʿala al-Qur’āna rabīʿa qalbī, wa nūra ṣadrī, wa jalā’a ḥuznī, wa dhahāba hammī.

TRANSLATION

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand, Your command over me is forever executed and Your decree over me is just. I ask You by every Name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sorrow and the dispeller of my grief.

Dua for Patience and Steadfastness

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:250)

This prayer from the Qur’an is for patience and firmness, helpful in times of difficulty and emotional distress.

ARABIC

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانْصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration

Rabbanā afrigh ‘alaynā ṣabran wa thabbit aqdāmanā wansurnā ‘ala al-qawmi al-kāfirīn.

TRANSLATION

Our Lord, pour upon us patience and make our feet firm and help us against the disbelieving people.

Dua for Easing Hardship

The Prophet ﷺ taught this dua to seek relief and ease from any distress, worry, or depression.

ARABIC

اللَّهُمَّ لاَ سَهْلَ إِلاَّ مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الْحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلاً

Transliteration

Allāhumma lā sahla illā mā jaʿaltahu sahlā, wa anta tajʿalu al-ḥazna idhā shi’ta sahlā.

TRANSLATION

O Allah, there is no ease except what You make easy. And You make the difficult, if You wish, easy.

Dua for Protection from Worry and Sorrow

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged reciting this supplication to seek refuge from anxiety and sadness.

ARABIC

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ

Transliteration

Allāhumma innī aʿūdhu bika mina al-hammi wal-ḥazani, wa aʿūdhu bika min al-ʿajzi wal-kasali, wa aʿūdhu bika min al-jubni wal-bukhli, wa aʿūdhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijāl.

TRANSLATION

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, weakness and laziness, miserliness and cowardice, the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.
