Dua for Seeking Refuge After a Bad Dream
Dua for anyone troubled by a bad dream, asking Allah for protection from its evil.
أَعـوذُ بِكَلِمـاتِ اللّهِ التّـامّـاتِ مِن غَضَـبِهِ وَعِـقابِهِ وَشَـرِّ عِبـادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَـزاتِ الشَّـياطينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضـرون
A`ūdhu bikalimāti ‘llāhit-tāmmāti min ghaḍabihi wa `iqābihi wa sharri `ibādih, wa min hamazātish-shayāṭīni wa an yaḥḍurūn.
I seek refuge in the Perfect Words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His slaves, and from the taunts of devils and from their presence.
Dua for Spitting Lightly and Changing Position
After a bad dream, the Prophet (ﷺ) advised to spit lightly three times to the left and say this dua to seek Allah’s protection.
أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ
Aʿūdhu billāhi min ash-shayṭān ir-rajīm
I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan.
Dua for Calming Fear and Anxiety
This dua for relieving fear and anxiety in the heart is a Sunnah practice to find comfort after a disturbing dream or night terror.
حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Ḥasbunallāhu wa niʿmal-wakīl
Allah is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.
Dua for Seeking Protection Before Sleeping
Reciting Ayat al-Kursi before sleep is recommended for protection from all harm, including bad dreams.
اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ...
Allāhu lā ilāha illā huwa al-Ḥayyul-Qayyūm...
Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence...
