Dua When Leaving Home
Recite this dua when stepping out of your home for any journey to seek Allah’s protection from harm.
بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿalā Allāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah.
Dua When Boarding a Vehicle
Recite this dua upon embarking on any mode of transport for a journey, seeking Allah’s safety and remembering His blessings.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنينَ، وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ
Subḥāna alladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn. Wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn.
Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, and we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves), and surely, to our Lord we are returning.
Dua for Safety and Protection During Travel
The Prophet ﷺ would recite this dua for Allah’s protection and safety whenever he set out on a journey.
اللّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا البِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَمِنَ العَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى. اللّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ. اللّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ وَالخَلِيفَةُ فِي الأَهْلِ.
Allāhumma innā nas’aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wa at-taqwā wa mina al-‘amali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ‘alaynā safaranā hādhā waṭwi ‘annā bu‘dah. Allāhumma anta aṣ-ṣāḥibu fī as-safar wa al-khalīfatu fī al-ahl.
O Allah, we ask You for goodness and piety in this journey and for deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion in the journey and the Guardian over the family.
Dua Upon Returning from Journey
Recite this dua upon returning home from a journey as practiced by the Prophet ﷺ.
آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عَابِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Āyibūna tā’ibūna ‘ābidūna li-rabbinā ḥāmidūn.
We return, having repented, worshipped, and praised our Lord.
