Dua When Leaving Home
Recite this dua each time you leave your home for any purpose, including travel, asking Allah for protection and guidance.
بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ‘alā Allāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
Dua When Setting Out for a Journey
This dua is to be recited when mounting a vehicle or beginning a journey, seeking safety and blessings from Allah.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ. اللهم إنا نسألك في سفرنا هذا البر والتقوى ومن العمل ما ترضى، اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطوِ عنا بعده، اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل، اللهم إني أعوذ بك من وعثاء السفر، وكآبة المنظر، وسوء المنقلب في المال والأهل.
Subḥāna alladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn. Wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn. Allāhumma innā nas’aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wat-taqwā wa mina al-‘amali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ‘alaynā safaranā hādhā waṭwi ‘annā bu‘dahu. Allāhumma anta aṣ-ṣāḥibu fis-safar wal-khalīfatu fil-ahl. Allāhumma inni a‘ūdhu bika min wa‘thā’i as-safar wa ka’ābati al-manẓar wa sū’i al-munqalabi fil-māli wal-ahl.
Glory is to Him Who has subjected this (vehicle) to us, and we could never have accomplished this (by ourselves), and surely, to our Lord we will return. O Allah, we ask You on this journey for righteousness, godliness, and deeds that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and make its distance short for us. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of hearts and being in a bad predicament, and from an ill fate in wealth and family.
Dua Upon Returning Home from a Journey
Recite this dua upon returning home at the end of your journey, expressing gratitude and praise to Allah.
آيِبُونَ، تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Āyibūna, tā’ibūna, ‘ābidūna, lirabbinā ḥāmidūn.
We are returning, repentant, worshipping our Lord, and praising Him.
Dua for Protection During Travel
This supplication can be recited during travel to ask for Allah’s protection from harm and misfortune.
اللّهُـمَّ إِنِّي أَعْوذُ بِكَ مِنَالهَـمِّ وَ الْحُـزْنِ،والعًجْـزِ والكَسَلِوالبُخْـلِ والجُـبْنِ،وضَلْـعِ الـدَّيْنِوغَلَبَـةِ الرِّجال
Allāhumma innī a‘ūdhu bika min al-hammi wal-ḥazan, wa a‘ūdhu bika min al-‘ajzi wal-kasal, wa a‘ūdhu bika min al-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a‘ūdhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijāl.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and miserliness, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debts and from being overpowered by men.
