Dua When Leaving Home
Recite this dua when stepping out of your house for any journey to seek Allah’s protection and guidance.
بِسْمِ اللهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ
Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿalā Allāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no power nor might except with Allah.
Dua When Beginning a Journey
Say this supplication when you begin your actual travel, such as mounting a vehicle or setting off on your way.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ
Subḥāna alladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn. Wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn.
Glory be to Him who has subjected this to us, for we could never have accomplished it; and surely to our Lord we shall return.
Dua for Protection During the Journey
Recite this dua to seek Allah’s protection from the difficulties and dangers of travel.
اللهم إنا نسألك في سفرنا هذا البر والتقوى، ومن العمل ما ترضى. اللهم هون علينا سفرنا هذا واطوِ عنا بعده. اللهم أنت الصاحب في السفر والخليفة في الأهل.
Allāhumma innā nas'aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wa-t-taqwā, wa min al-ʿamali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ʿalainā safaranā hādhā waṭwi ʿannā buʿdah. Allāhumma anta aṣ-ṣāḥibu fi as-safar wa al-khalīfatu fi al-ahl.
O Allah, we ask You in this journey for righteousness and piety, and deeds that please You. O Allah, ease this journey for us and fold away its distance. O Allah, You are the companion in travel and the caretaker of family.
Dua Upon Returning Home
When you return safely from your journey, recite this dhikr to praise Allah and thank Him for a safe return.
آيِبُونَ، تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Āyibūna, tā'ibūna, ʿābidūna, li-rabbinā ḥāmidūn.
Returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord.
