Dua When Leaving Home
Recite this dua whenever you leave your home for a journey, including air travel, seeking Allah’s protection and guidance.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
Bismillāh, tawakkaltu ʿalā Allāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is no might nor power except with Allah.
Dua When Boarding Any Means of Transport
Make this dua when boarding a plane or any other vehicle to invoke Allah’s protection and thankfulness for the ability to travel.
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ
Subḥāna alladhī sakhkhara lanā hādhā wa mā kunnā lahu muqrinīn, wa innā ilā rabbinā lamunqalibūn.
Glory is to Him Who has subjected this (transport) to us, and we could never have accomplished it, and to our Lord we surely must return.
Dua for Safe and Easy Journey
Recite this dua while traveling, such as during a flight, to seek ease and protection throughout your journey.
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ فِي سَفَرِنَا هَذَا الْبِرَّ وَالتَّقْوَى، وَمِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تَرْضَى. اللَّهُمَّ هَوِّنْ عَلَيْنَا سَفَرَنَا هَذَا، وَاطْوِ عَنَّا بُعْدَهُ. اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الصَّاحِبُ فِي السَّفَرِ، وَالْخَلِيفَةُ فِي الْأَهْلِ.
Allāhumma innā nas'aluka fī safarinā hādhā al-birra wat-taqwā, wa mina al-'amali mā tarḍā. Allāhumma hawwin ʿalaynā safaranā hādhā, waṭwi ʿannā buʿdah. Allāhumma anta aṣ-ṣāḥibu fis-safar, wal-khalīfatu fil-ahl.
O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness and piety, and for actions that please You. O Allah, make this journey easy for us and shorten its distance. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor over the family.
Dua for Returning from a Journey
Recite this dua when the plane lands or you safely complete your journey, thanking Allah for your safe return.
آيِبُونَ، تَائِبُونَ، عَابِدُونَ، لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
Āyibūna, tā'ibūna, ʿābidūna, li-rabbinā ḥāmidūn.
We are returning with repentance and worshipping and praising our Lord.
