Dua After Waking Up

The Prophet ﷺ would recite this dua to express gratitude to Allah upon awakening, acknowledging the return of life after sleep.

ARABIC

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Transliteration

Al-ḥamdu lillāh illadhī aḥyānā ba‘da mā amātanā wa ilayhin-nushūr

TRANSLATION

All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us, and to Him is the resurrection.

Dua Remembering Allah Upon Waking Up

This dua is to be recited when one wakes up and remembers Allah immediately, seeking forgiveness and guidance.

ARABIC

لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، وَلَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْعَلِيِّ الْعَظِيمِ، رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي

Transliteration

Lā ilāha illallāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lahu, lahu’l-mulku wa lahu’l-ḥamdu wa huwa ‘alā kulli shay’in qadīr. Subhānallāh, wal-ḥamdu lillāh, wa lā ilāha illallāh, wallāhu akbar, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāhi al-‘aliyyi al-‘aẓīm. Rabbi’ghfir lī.

TRANSLATION

None has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone, who has no partner. His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is able to do all things. Glory is to Allah, and all praise is for Allah, and none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Supreme. O Lord, forgive me.

Dua When Startled or Disturbed From Sleep

If you wake up due to a bad dream or being startled, seek Allah’s protection with this dua.

ARABIC

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ غَضَبِهِ وَعِقَابِهِ وَشَرِّ عِبَادِهِ وَمِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَأَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

Transliteration

A‘ūdhu bikalimāti-llāhit-tāmmāti min ghaḍabihi wa ‘iqābihi wa sharri ‘ibādihi, wa min hamazātish-shayāṭīn wa an yaḥḍurūn.

TRANSLATION

I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from His anger and His punishment, from the evil of His slaves, and from the evil promptings of devils and from their presence.

Dua for Waking Up With Good Health

The Prophet ﷺ would ask Allah for well-being and guidance for the new day when waking up.

ARABIC

اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَدَنِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي سَمْعِي، اللَّهُمَّ عَافِنِي فِي بَصَرِي، لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ

Transliteration

Allāhumma ‘āfinī fī badanī. Allāhumma ‘āfinī fī sam‘ī. Allāhumma ‘āfinī fī baṣarī. Lā ilāha illā ant.

TRANSLATION

O Allah, grant my body health. O Allah, grant health to my hearing. O Allah, grant health to my sight. There is none worthy of worship but You.
